Cho Oyu Expedition

Cho Oyu is the sixth-highest mountain in the world, at 8,188 metres above sea level. In Tibetan, Cho Oyu means "Turquoise Goddess." The mountain is the westernmost major peak of the Khumbu sub-section, 20 km west of Mt. Everest. Climbing Cho Oyu is achievable for intermediate climbers who wish to attempt an 8,000 m peak. The expedition provides a perfect entrance into the world of high-altitude Himalayan climbing.

Cho Oyu was first climbed by an Austrian team in 1954, followed by Indian and German teams in 1958 and 1964, respectively. The Cho Oyu expedition starting and ending in Kathmandu, with days allocated for paperwork and permits in Kathmandu before heading into Tibet. The journey to the Cho Oyu basecamp can be done via flights to Lhasa or through the Rasuwagadhi border. The expedition consists of short treks to basecamp, intermediate and advanced camps, and three climbing camps with limited technical sections, making it suitable for adjusting to high altitude.

Cho Oyu Expedition — Itinerary

Day 01: Kathmandu Arrival
Arrival at Kathmandu airport and transfer to hotel (1350m.)
Day 02: Rest and preparation day for assignment & briefing before departure from Kathmandu.
Day 03: Drive from Syprubeshi to Kerung Height (3200m/10499ft). Overnight at Hotel
Day 04: Drive from Syprubeshi to Kerung Height (3200m/10499ft). Overnight at Hotel
Day 05: Drive from Kerung height to Tingri (4,348m/14,268 ft): Overnight at Hotel. Overnight in hotel.
Day 06: Rest day at Tingri for acclimatisation.
After breakfast, the climbing Sirdar will take you up to a (5000m/16404ft) hill for acclimatisation.
Day 07: Drive from Tingri to the Chinese base camp
After breakfast, drive from Tingri to the Chinese base camp (4800m/15750ft.), which is about a two-hour drive.
Day 08: Rest and acclimatize at the Chinese base camp (4800m)
Prepare and arrange for the yaks to go to the advanced base camp via the middle camp.
Day 09: Trek from Chinese Base Camp to Middle Camp (5300m.)
Day 10: Trek from Middle Camp to the ABC (5700m) of Cho Oyu
Day 11 - 39: Climbing Period –Summit Cho-Oyu (8201m)
Day 40: Dismantling Advance Base Camp
Dismantling Advance Base Camp; trek to middle camp; drive to Tingri (4,348m/14,268 ft)-takes about 03 hours trekking and 06 hours driving; overnight in hotel
Day 41: Drive from Tingri to Kerung Height(3200m)
Overnight at tea house accommodation in B/B plan
Day 42: Kerung - Kathmandu
Early in the morning, drive from Kerung Heights to the Kerung border. Finish immigration formalities to cross the border and then drive to Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel.
Day 43: Free day in Kathmandu and Nepalese cultural program with farewell dinner in the evening.
Day 44: Transfer to the airport for final departure
